On Memorial Day we honor those who have fought for our freedom and died in the service of our country. With that, I offer these three songs in remembrance.

Neil Young's "Love and War" sounds to me like a beautiful, quiet creek, flowing in tired protest of war.

In "The Field," Mason Jennings touches a wide range of emotionfrom pride in the one who joined the war to heartache over the soldier's death to anger about the war.

Though my grandpa, a veteran of WWII's Battle of the Bulge, probably despised this version of "The Star Spangled Banner," Jimi Hendrix reflected both patriotism and the horrors of war in this legendary performance. A commenter in this particular post describes Hendrix's incorporation of the sounds of bombs and gunfire as well as a bit of "Taps."
