Share: How my Vision Map Brings Me Joy

When people ask me what a Vision Map is, I answer that one purpose of my Vision Map is to help me remember what I want to experience in the coming year. Just this fall, my Vision Map has served me well in this regard.

In preparing to visit my friend last month in Portland, Oregon, she and I talked about whether to stay in the city or spend some time at the ocean. My first response was that it didn't matter ... but after catching sight of my current Vision Map (pictured above), I knew I'd regret not going to the ocean. Despite the wind advisories during our seaside stay, I have no regrets about my time walking along the beach, watching the sunrise bounce off the clouds on the western horizon and being mesmerized by the continuous waves. (Some of my ocean photos are in this post.)

With the year coming to a close, I also knew I wanted to visit the Weisman Art Museum, pictured on my 2014 Vision Map alongside an ocean scene. In the unique building's 20-year history, neither my husband nor I had been there yet, and we decided to make an afternoon date of our visit. The afternoon became a sort-of JOY home run because it hit each of my heart ventures: connecting with my husband; enjoying art/creativity; exploring a new-to-me-place; learning about new-to-me art and artists; and moving or being  active. If I hadn't included that image on my map, I am certain I'd have put off visiting the Weisman for another year, if not another 20!

These are just a couple examples of how my Vision Map brings me joy, inspires me and helps give me direction. These are just a couple reasons why, for the past few years, I have created a new Vision Map each year.
